Black Jack Basics – Part One
Posted in Blackjack on 02/23/2010 07:21 am by DominiqueThe basic premise of the card game is to be given cards adding up to twenty-one. Every gambler is assigned 2 cards. When a blackjack player is handed a nine or less and an Ace they have been dealt a soft hand. When the blackjack player receives no Ace cards it is referred to as a hard hand. As soon as the cards have been handed to all players at the blackjack table, including the dealer, every black jack player is provided the opportunity to make one of 6 actions:
Requesting another card (Hit): When a blackjack player announces hit me the dealer will give him another card, if the addition of that card causes the total greater than twenty-one the player will have lost and that’s the end of the game, if the card pushes the value of the hand to twenty-one the black jack player is the winner and if the value of the hand hasn’t yet achieved 21 they’re still in the game.
Keeping the hand you have been given: If a blackjack player is satisfied with the cards they’ll stay. Once this has happened the dealer will show their cards and the blackjack player who has gotten 21 or the closet to 21 will win.
Doubling Down: A blackjack player might ask to double down which increases the bet by one hundred percent they have laid. As soon as you have taken this action you can only receive one additional card. The details of doubling down are often out lined by the table or betting house rules so prior to wagering be sure you are familiar with the house rules. If you’re playing at an on-line betting house this is normally quite simple.
